Medical
  • You should be familiar with the full range of health risks likely to be encountered at specific destinations and associated with different types of travel – from business, humanitarian and leisure travel to backpacking and adventure tours.
  • You should protect yourself against insect bites and remember to pack prescription medicines and any other items you need for your trip. If you are in doubt please contact your local health service/doctor or visit the World Heath Organisation website and follow the appropriate links.


Unaccompanied Minor
  • Do not book unaccompanied children using the online booking engine – contact us by e-mail or phone and we will make a separate reservation.
  • The unaccompanied minor procedure must be applied for a child between 5 and 12 years old, not accompanied by an adult over 16 years of age.
  • A child under 5 years of age is not accepted for transportation on UIA flights if not accompanied by an adult. Passengers between 12 and 17 years old and travelling alone may be considered unaccompanied minors and accepted as such as on special request of the parents or appointed guardian or in case of doubt about his/her ability to travel alone.
  • The maximum number of Unaccompanied Minors per flight may not exceed ten per flight.
  • Unaccompagnied Minors service is only available on UIA operated flight

Connecting flights
  • For interline transportation Unaccompanied Minors shall be permitted only for if all segments of which have been confirmed. Each carrier is responsible for the safe delivery of the unaccompanied minor to the receiving carrier at the transfer airport. Same day connections are allowed only, provided all reservations are confirmed. Stopovers or night stops are not permitted.

Pet Policy
  • If you wish to transport a pet in the aircraft cabin or in the hold you must make advance arrangements with UIA at least 48 hours in advance.
  • UIA allows small dogs, cats and pet rodents (i.e. guinea pigs, hamsters) and other small pet animal species to be carried in the passenger cabin.

Pets in the cabin

  • The maximum weight is 5 kg for a pet/pet unit including the container which must not exceed the sum of the dimensions may not exceed 115 cm (55x 45 x 20cm) and only one container per passenger is allowed.
  • Quantity restrictions per flight: - one container in Business Class; - two containers in Economy class.
  • A pet must be kept in its container at all times and the container shall strictly not be opened at all when on board. The container shall be placed and kept under the seat in front of the passenger throughout the flight whenever fasten seat belt sign is on. The maximum size of the container is the same as with the carry on baggage.
  • Final acceptance is always subject to Commander’s approval and removal of pet to the cargo hold may be ordered if one of the established conditions is not respected.

Animals in the hold
  • A maximum of two animals of comparable size up to 14 kg each, which are used to cohabitation, may be shipped in the same container. Animals over that weight must travel individually. Animals up to six months old from the same litter, up to a maximum quantity of three, may be shipped in the same container.
  • The maximum weight is 50 kg including the weight of the container; animals exceeding this weight limit shall be shipped as cargo. Pets over 40 kg must be carried in strong wooden containers.

Animal transportation charges

  • Pets are not included in the free baggage allowance. When the weight system is applied, the normal excess baggage charge is debited and when the piece system is applied, one excess charge is debited for the pet/pet unit, regardless whether the passenger’s free baggage allowance is used or not. The weight consists of animal plus container.

Preparations and restrictions

  • The passenger must have an advanced booking in UIA’s reservation system and he has to provide all necessary documents (pet passport, export/import/transit permits, health/vaccination certificates etc.)
  • UIA does not assume any responsibility if an animal is refused entry into or transit through a country.

Important
  • The importation of pets as baggage is totally prohibited to/via some countries, e.g. Great Britain, Ireland, South Africa, and Hong Kong, Australia. To these countries live animals must be transported solely as air cargo under an appropriate Air Waybill.
  • Animal transportation service is only available on UIA operated flight

Hunting Weapons
  • Firearms and ammunition designed for sporting and hunting purposes shall be carried as checked baggage only in the aircraft holds, which are inaccessible from the cabin when the following conditions are met:
  • Firearms must be unloaded and made safe.
  • Ammunition with explosive or incendiary projectiles is not accepted.
  • Firearms are suitably packed to avoid breakage. Firearms may also be packed in passenger baggage among other items as long as it is well protected against breakage. Hard shell cases are recommended.
  • Ammunition must be securely boxed and can also be packed together in the same case with the firearm.
  • Maximum allowance for ammunition per passenger is 5 kg (pooling is not allowed). If the passenger travelling a group where more than one passenger carries the allowed amount of ammunition per person, the ammunition must be packed into separate packages each of which must not exceed 5 kg.
  • If the firearm/ammunition is not within the normal baggage allowance, normal excess baggage charges apply.
  • It is advisable to contact the relevant embassy or consulate to confirm the latest regulations of the destination country. The customs regulations of the destination shall be strictly followed.
